Clutton Homes Sponsor Up-and-Coming Boxer

Keiron "Slammer" Gray has become the latest Telford boxer to find his way onto the professional scene. Having compiled a respectable record in the amateurs, Gray felt the time was right to swap trophies for pay "My time in the amateurs is complete and I think it is my calling to turn pro, and make some money."

Gray felt his style had to be toned down too much for the amateurs, preferring a more pro style, where you pick your shots.

Gray, like two time British Masters champion Mark Lloyd is a product of the Telford Amateur Boxing Club in Madeley, the club that played an integral part of former WBC world champion Richie Woodhall's unpaid days.

Entry into the professional scene is traditionally fraught with frustration in obtaining sponsorship, which is critical in order to concentrate on the sport, rise through the ranks and challenge for honours. Gray has managed to attract sponsorship from Telford's largest property development group Clutton Homes Ltd which provides the opportunity to follow the path of local hero Richie Woodall.

The debut fight is appearing on the televised Carl Froch v Denis Inkin bill on May the 10th in Nottingham, a show that also includes Ricky Hatton rival Junior Witter defending his WBC title. The bill itself will be shown live on ITV and Gray will be taking with him a healthy local support against an as yet unnamed opponent.

Also appearing on the bill is Mark Lloyd, another of our local boxers who is fighting for the English title at welterweight. Lloyd commented "he was motivated and focused on the job ahead and was determined to come away with the title on the night". Of Gray he said "I'm proud to see my fellow stable mate able to make his debut on the same bill and believed he would be a force to reckon with".

Gray commented that he was "anxious to get his first professional fight under his belt and was determined to come away with a debut win". "I am grateful to my sponsors Clutton Homes for their considerable financial backing and for enabling a smooth transition from the amateur ranks.

Rob Clutton, Chief Executive of Clutton Homes, stated his commitment to Gray, "he is a talented individual who could become a real contender, we are proud to associate ourselves with such a hard working and committed individual".

Gray has attracted over 100 supporters for the night; however, there are still a limited number of tickets left for what is heading as a sell out. Anyone wishing to join the entourage can call the ticket line on 07811 132 170.
